Classic Apple Cake

A French-inspired apple cake with beautifully layered apple slices! The gorgeous cross-section is almost too pretty to eat. ♪

  • ★Unsalted butter50g
  • ★All-purpose flour75g

    Peel 2 apples, cut into quarters, then slice thinly.

    In a bowl, combine 2 eggs and the ★ seasonings, mixing well with a whisk.

    Heat 50g unsalted butter in the microwave for 30-50 seconds until melted, then add 70cc milk and mix well.

    Coat the thinly sliced apples with the batter, mixing gently to combine.

    Butter a pound cake pan or line with parchment paper. Layer the apple slices neatly in one direction to create a beautiful pattern.

    Bake in a preheated 170°C oven for about 50 minutes. If the cake browns too quickly, cover with aluminum foil partway through.

    Once baked, let cool slightly, then refrigerate until completely chilled before serving.

Tips

Rather than using a slicer which may make the apples too thin, hand-slicing with a knife gives better texture and bite. Aligning the apple slices in one direction creates a beautiful cross-section when sliced.
