Crispy Bread Crust Rusks

Bread crusts transform into sweet, crispy rusks — no more throwing them away, right? ♪ It's such a fun and easy little treat you'll want to make again and again!

  • Bread crustscrusts from 6 slices of bread (8 slices per loaf)
  • Margarine2 tbsp

    Cut the bread crusts (from 6 slices of sandwich bread) into 1 cm pieces.

    Add 2 tbsp of margarine to a non-stick (Teflon-coated) frying pan. Once the margarine begins to melt, add the bread crusts and stir-fry them, mixing occasionally with cooking chopsticks, until they become golden and crispy all over.

    Once the bread crusts are crispy, sprinkle 2 tbsp of sugar over them and stir to combine. Continue cooking until the sugar starts to melt.

    Once the sugar begins to set, turn off the heat and spread the rusks out on a plate to cool.

    For extra flavor, try adding cinnamon or kinako (roasted soybean powder) to taste.

Tips

Make sure to cook off the moisture from the bread crusts thoroughly — this is the key to getting an extra crispy texture.
