Crispy Curry Cheese Fried Tofu (Atsuage)

The combo of curry and parmesan cheese on crispy fried tofu is seriously addictive! You won't be able to stop snacking on this once you start!

  • Thick fried tofu (atsuage, about 8×8cm pieces)2
  • Oil (vegetable or olive oil)1 tsp
  • ★Soy sauce (optional)1/4 tsp
  • ★Curry powder1/2 tsp
  • ★Parmesan cheese (grated)1 tbsp
  • ★Sugar1/2 tsp
  • ★Salt1/4 tsp
  • ★Japanese dashi stock powder1/4 tsp
  • Dried parsley or aonori (optional)to taste

    Mix together 1/2 tsp curry powder, 1 tbsp parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp dashi stock powder in a small bowl.

    Cut the 2 pieces of thick fried tofu into your desired bite-sized pieces.

    Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1 tsp oil.

    Once the oil is hot, arrange the fried tofu pieces in the pan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the surface becomes crispy and golden brown all over.

    Reduce heat to low, sprinkle the ★ seasoning mixture over the tofu, and toss everything together. If desired, add 1/4 tsp soy sauce along the pan edge, mix well, and remove from heat.

    Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with dried parsley or aonori to taste. Serve immediately.

Tips

Mix quickly after adding the seasonings so the parmesan cheese doesn't clump from the residual heat.
