Plump and Tender Edamame Ready in 5 Minutes

Paddy

This is the Tanaka family's special steam-boiled edamame recipe! Using just a little water locks in all the flavor and gives you that perfect plump, tender texture — it's seriously the best way to enjoy edamame! ♪

Ingredients

2 servings
  • Edamame (in pods)400g
  • Water1 cup
  • Saltoptional

Directions

10 min
  1. 1

Rinse 400g of edamame thoroughly, then drain in a colander.

  2. 2

Place the edamame and 1 cup of water in a pot and close the lid tightly.

  3. 3

Turn the heat to high and steam-boil for 5 minutes without removing the lid. A timer comes in handy here!

  4. 4

As soon as the 5 minutes are up, transfer the edamame to a colander immediately. Do not rinse with water — simply sprinkle with salt to taste and serve.

  5. 5

Since firmness varies by variety, we recommend tasting one edamame after the 5 minutes to check if the texture is to your liking.

  6. 6

If using an IH (induction) cooktop, set the heat to medium-high to prevent scorching.

Tips

Even if you increase or decrease the amount of edamame, keep the water at 1 cup. As long as there is enough steam building up inside the pot, you won't need to worry about running out of moisture.
