This dish has chicken drumettes and boiled eggs simmered in a sweet and savory sauce — so comforting! The flavors get even better the next day, so it's perfect for meal prep too♪
Ingredients
4 servings- Chicken drumettes8
- Eggs4
- ★Vinegar1/2 cup
- ★Soy sauce1/2 cup
- ★Sugar1/2 cup
Directions
40 min- 1
Place 4 eggs in a pot and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then cook for 8–10 minutes. Transfer to cold water and gently peel the shells.
- 2
Rinse 8 chicken drumettes under running water and pat thoroughly dry with paper towels.
- 3
Add the ★ seasonings to a pot and heat over medium, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 4
Add the boiled eggs and chicken drumettes. Once the liquid begins to bubble, reduce to low heat, place a drop lid (otoshibuta) on top, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally with chopsticks.
- 5
Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Letting it rest for a day allows the flavors to meld and makes it even more delicious.
Tips
For the best balance with the chicken, boil the eggs slightly less than you would for typical marinated eggs (nitamago). This recipe also works great with chicken wings or thigh meat — any cut of chicken will turn out delicious.
